This weekend I had a good reason to try out a sample of earthbath’s Oatmeal & Aloe Itch Relief Shampoo on Dash. Unfortunately, the poor little guy came down with a bad allergy rash from romping around too much in the fresh cut grass. Or at least that was the ER vet’s diagnosis.
I was looking for dog shampoo recipes, but since I had the earthbath sample I figured I’d give it a go. Plus, since he was also dirty, I thought that the earthbath shampoo would give him some much-needed relief. The label claims to be flea treatment compatible, and touts to combat skin irritation while re-moisturizing dry skin. And Dash definitely had some dry skin going on. The directions state that it can be used either full strength (which is what I did) or it can be diluted to 10 parts water for every 1 part of shampoo.
The ingredients are listed as follows
purified water, renewable coconut-based cleansers, colloidal oatmeal, aloe vera, food grade vanilla and almond essences, olive oil squalene (preservative).
Like the Puppy Shampoo previously reviewed, the Oatmeal & Aloe Shampoo lathered up well – only a small amount was needed. It has a vanilla/almond fragrance that, once I started sudsing Dash up with the shampoo, wasn’t overpowering at all. I do wish that it was tear-free like the Puppy Shampoo, though.
Dash came out squeaky and shiny clean. His dry skin looked relieved and the rash on his belly looked a little better later on in the evening. I was worried that the shampoo might irritate it more, but was pleased to see that it didn’t at all. I think that this shampoo was very gentle on his skin.
