Hartz has voluntarily recalled two dog treats due to finding trace amounts of an antibiotic residue found in samples of the Hartz Chicken Chews and the Hartz Oinkies Pig Skin Twists wrapped with Chicken for dogs. The recall is ONLY for these two treats. No other Hartz products are affected by this recall.
The antibiotic residue found in the samples is only approved for use in poultry in China and other countries, including European Union member states. It is not approved in the U.S. Hartz reports that the trace amounts of antibiotic residue do not pose a pet health or safety risk. Hartz maintains that these results are highly unlikely to be related to the reports of illnesses FDA has received related to jerky pet treats produced in China.
If you have these products, contact the Hartz Consumer Affairs team at 1-800-275-1414 for a product refund or go to www.hartz.com for additional information.
