Dash loves to play tug. Almost as much as playing fetch. But I’ve found with the traditional tug ropes my fingers either get nipped when he adjusts his hold on the rope or I find that I just can’t get a good enough grip on it. Chelsy’s Toys, an eco-friendly dog toy that can withstand even the toughest tugger, solves the problems.
The toy was created by Lisa Freeman and inspired by her American Pit Bull Terrier, Chelsy, because she was frustrated by constantly having to replace toys Chelsy destroyed in a matter of minutes. She knew that there had to be a better way, and took matters into her own hands. Using recycled materials, she constructed a new tug toy with a twist – there’s a handle on one end so that you can get a good grip on it.
So why is this toy tougher than the regular tug toy? Well, the fibers are knotted in a way that helps it withstand pulling and chewing. At the same time, the material is soft and easy on the hands (and your dog’s teeth, too). The toys come in 4 sizes: big daddy, large, medium and small. I received a small size to try out on Dash and I was pleasantly surprised. At first I didn’t think it would really be much different than a regular tug toy, but I was proved wrong. It is so much easier to play tug with the Chelsy toy – you see, Dash never lets go so it can be hard on my wrist after a while. But he loves tugging away so much. With the Chelsy toy, I can just hold on to the handle and let Dash tug away. The Chelsy toy is also different in that the end is “frayed” so Dash had a few different “ropes” that he could latch onto when tugging.
I was definitely impressed by the Chelsy toy and I would certainly recommend it over any standard tug toy out there. You can certainly trust that your dog, whether it’s a Yorkie or a Pittie, will get a lot of play out of it. Plus, it’s eco-friendly! What’s not to love about that?! And an added plus – when it gets dirty you can just toss it in the wash!
