The South Philadelphia Association of Dog Owners (SPADO) is proud to announce the ultimate dog park and community experience: Please. On Sunday, May 17th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., gather with other Philly dog lovers for a day of information, education, services and making new friends.
Tickets are $5 in advance and may be purchased at the park recreation center or just buy on the day of the event for $10. All proceeds will support the renovation of the Columbus Square Park Dog Park. With plenty of room to run inside Christopher Columbus’ city-block-sized-fenced-in-field (enter at the corner of 12th and Reed Streets), you’ll have access to a variety of vendors supporting this event, from community businesses to dog/pet services and education. After 11:30 AM, tennis balls and frisbees will be provided.
SPADO’s fundraiser will even include raffle prizes from local businesses, a dog wash, and a photo booth!
This is a family friendly event with retailers, veterinary services, professional dog walkers, trainers, info booths, and local organizations. Looking to add to the family? Pets available for adoption from local rescues will also be there for meet and greets. Be sure to stop by the SPADO area and sign up to help keep our city parks clean and help raise money to the much-needed revitalization of the Columbus Square Dog Run.

On Saturday, April 4th, 2015 from 12-4 pm, Kazoodles Pet Boutique is hosting a family friendly Doggie Easter Egg Hunt in Jenkintown’s beautiful outdoor Town Square located at Leedom Street & Greenwood Avenue. Sign your pup up for a town-wide egg hunt and the “Strut Your Mutt” fashion show for a chance to win a prize for best dressed!
There is a $10 registration fee (for each) to participate in the Egg Hunt and the “Strutt Your Mutt” fashion show – you you can just register at the event. All proceeds will benefit the Pooch Kaboose Dog Rescue group, a non-profit, no-kill rescue organization whose mission is to protect the lives of abandoned, mistreated and or homeless dogs.

The Pooch Kaboose is a non-nrofit ,no-kill rescue organization that protects the lives of abandoned, mistreated and or homeless dogs given up by their owners due to unforeseen circumstances, but left at public shelters and in danger of being euthanized due to overpopulation. The Pooch Kaboose finds dogs loving, responsible matches that will provide permanent homes for the dogs and is committed to their welfare beyond the adoption process. The Pooch Kaboose will assist dogs in distress without regard to breed, age or ease of placement. All rescued dogs receive appropriate veterinary care and treatment, as well as spay/neuter services.

One of our favorite local rescues, the Delco SPCA, is partnering with Whole Foods Market for a “Pints for Paws” on May 31st. Adoptable dogs, a great cause, great beer – what more could you ask for?
On Saturday, May 31st from12-6 p.m. the Whole Foods located at821 Lancaster Avenue (Wayne), participate in a beer-tasting event featuring delicious brews from Weyerbacher, all in support of the Delco SPCA. And from 12-3 p.m. the Delco SPCA will be there with dogs who are looking for their forever home!
If you do happen to meet your soul dog at the event, you will be able to fill out an adoption application, but before you can take your new friend home you’ll need make a trip down to the Delco SPCA Adoption Center located at 555 Sandy Bank Road in Media to fulfill the Adoption Requirements and to process the paperwork.
But even if you’re not looking to adopt it’s a great opportunity to sample some great-tasting beer while hanging out with some friendly, adorable dogs – while helping to support a great local cause. By the way – if you have any old sheets, towels, unopened pet food, or any other item on their Wish List, bring it with you to donate!

The No Dog Gets Left Behind Annual Valentine Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 21st at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Philadelphia. Early-bird tickets are now on sale for just $35 per person. The first 200 people who purchase tickets will also receive a special gift bag that contains a copy of Pen Farthing’s just-released book, Wylie: The brave street dog who never gave up!
Enjoy tasty hors d’oeuvres, great music by POWERi and raffle prizes galore – with a chance to win a $5,000, all-inclusive stay for four at Club Med Sandpiper Bay! The night will also feature a very special keynote address by Pen Farthing, recently named CNN’s 2014 Hero of the Year. Join local animal welfare advocate group, Philadoptables, for their 4th Annual Love Potions Happy Hour! Come join other animal lovers for a fun night and help support Philly’s homeless animals.
The Love Potions event will be on Saturday, February 7th from 6-9 pm at Curran’s Irish Inn, located at 6900 State Road in Philadelphia. There will be complimentary appetizers, drink specials and chances to win some awesome raffle prizes. A $5 donation is required, but all proceeds go towards helping Philly’s homeless animals. Make a date night of it and come earlier for dinner – Curran’s has a fabulous menu!
Philadoptables is a local 501c3 non-profit organization that focuses on supporting Philadelphia Animal Care and Control, Philadelphia’s open intake animal control center.
