October is officially recognized as Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month, and the ASPCA is calling on animal lovers across the country to help raise awareness about pet adoption. New research shows that pet owners who adopt are more likely to feel happy with their experience when compared to owners who shop. I can’t even begin to describe how happy I was knowing that I was able to get Finn (my new foster dog) out of ACCT and save a life.
Unfortunately, the reality is that only 20%-30% of new acquired dogs and cats are adopted from shelters and rescue groups, so this October we want to spread the word that adoption is the best option!
To celebrate Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month, the ASPCA would like to invite you to join their one hour live stream event, which will take place on October 30th at 7pm EST – just tune in at ASPCA’s Ustream Channel. The live stream will feature ASPCA behavior experts talking about bringing a new dog into the home as well as veterinarians talking about Halloween safety tips.
At the same time, they will also be hosting a Twitter party where they will share even more pet tips, answers questions, and so have some amazing giveaways! Just use hashtag is #AdoptDontShop. RSVP to the Twitter party here: http://blog.aspca.org/content/youre-invited-our-virtual-shelter-dog-party.
