The dog days of summer will culminate this year in one great big dog day at McFaddens at Citizens Bank Park. On Sunday August 29th, the Beerfest at the Ballpark will return for its third year and will introduce a new feature to help bring awareness to the plight of the city’s four-legged friends. With the PSPCA as the official event charity, organizers are preparing for the first-ever “Diamond Dogs Revue”, in which some of the PSPCA’s adoptive dogs will be led around a miniature baseball diamond and introduced to the crowd. Over 20 craft breweries from Vermont, New York, California, New Jersey, Colorado, and Oregon will be pouring samples along with some of Pennsylvania’s finest craft breweries, including Weyerbacher, Lancaster, General Lafayette and more.
Organizers hope the event will raise substantial funds for the PSPCA and encourage anyone interested in dogs to check out their ongoing Suds for Buds dog-friendly beer tastings presented with the PSPCA. Information is at
“This is an event that really brings people together”, says organizer Chris dePeppe of www.beerheads.com. “We plan it on a late summer weekend when the Phillies are out of town to give baseball fans a reason to gather at the ballpark and this year with the PSPCA involved I think it will be a really cool event.”
The PSPCA will have its Adoption Mobile at the event with a selection of cats and dogs that are in need of new homes. A portion of all proceeds goes directly to the PSPCA.
For those looking for a little exercise, the event also features the BEERAMID, a boardwalk-style test of skill involving empty kegs and basketballs. The overall winner will win two tickets to an upcoming Phillies game and all proceeds from the BEERAMID go to the PSPCA.
The event runs from 2:00-6:00 PM at McFaddens at citizens Bank Park and parking is free. Tickets are $40 in advance and are available at door (if available) will be $50. Food vouchers are included with the ticket and hot dogs, pretzels and other stadium fare will be available, and beer from all breweries will be available for sampling throughout the day and everyone gets a keepsake tasting glass!
