Twistix is a dog treat that is supposed to help your dog’s oral hygeine.  Twitix is an all natural treat that doesn’t contain wheat.

Although I try to brush Dash’s teeth, since he’s been out at my parents his oral hygeine has slacked off a bit.  My parents do give him raw meaty bones, but my mom complained that they made a mess.  So I figured I’d try to find a treat that would help out.

Dash loves Greenies (what dog doesn’t?), so I thought for sure he would love Twistix.  It comes in 2 sizes, one for large dogs and one for small dogs.  It also comes in two flavors – the regular and peanut butter.  I got both kinds.  The Twistix for small dogs is a stick that is about 3 inches in length.  Ingredients include rice powder, soy protein concentrate, glycerin, distilled water, natural flavor, cellulose, garlic, sodium hexametaphosphate (removes tartar), citric acid, chlorophyll, peppermint and parsley.  When I gave it to Dash, he initially  seemed interested in it, but quickly decided that he’d rather chomp on a toy instead.  Twistix Fail.

So I figured, why have all of theses treats go to waste – why not give them another shot with my friend’s puppy Harold?  Although Harold will definitely be a large dog (he’s part German Sheppard, Chow, and something else), as a puppy he can handle the small ones.  Besides, it’s never too early to worry about oral hygeine!  Harold happily chomped away at the Twistix.  It seems he has a less discerning palate than Dash.

At a price of  $4.95 (for 5.5 ounces), it may not be worth the cost of trying these out on your dog, especially if he or she is a picky eater.
