Back in 2007 when the pet food scare first occurred, the inventors of Frozen Woofys, Linda and Mike Drei, started to really pay attention to what they were feeding their dogs. Much to their surprise, they found that the majority of the dog treats and foods were heavily processed and contained ingredients that were unpronounceable.
One day Linda and Mike were enjoying some fresh pineapple when they noticed their one dog, Oscar, was begging for some of his own. “We had no idea a dog would like this type of fruit” said Linda. After some investigation, Linda found out that pineapple was good for dogs and specifically their joints. So they continued to give them to him as a treat. As things moved forward, they found that he had a love for strawberries, bananas and lots of other fruits. As the research continued, it was found these fruits also contained many healthful vitamins and minerals that were very good for dogs.
Ice cubes were also a very popular dog treat in the house. On the hot days, they would just take a turn getting the ice cubes out of their bowl. Ergo, the inspriation behind “Frozen Woofys” – a frozen, refreshing treat that was also nutritious. Linda noticed that many of the frozen treats on the market contained lots of sugar and other unhealthy ingredients. She knew that there was a better way. She developed a recipe that contained organic ingredients – and created a product that dog owners could rest assured would be safe for their dogs to eat.
I decided to try Frozen Woofys out on Dash, my own dog. There are two flavors: Banana Rama Ding Dog and Barkin Berry. The ingredients are:
Banana Rama Ding Dog: organic soymilk, organic peanut butter, organic bananas
Barkin Berry: organic yogurt, organic molasses, organic peanut butter, organic strawberries
I thought for sure Dash would literally go “bananas” over the Banana Rama Ding Dog. He loves bananas and peanut butter. I put it down, and it was a hit. Then I gave him the Barkin Berry – and he went ballistic. He couldn’t get enough of it. He actually picked up the container and took it into a corner to eat it.
What I really like about Frozen Woofys is that I could take away the treat from Dash after a little while and put it back in the freezer and save it for later. Another great thing about Frozen Woofys is that it kept Dash occupied – unlike most dog treats where as soon as I give him one the fun is over, Frozen Woofys required some work on the Dash’s part. It’s definitely a long lasting treat. Also, it’s all healthy ingredients. Which is good for Dash right now because he’s on a diet. And I feel even better knowing that the treats are made locally in New Cumberland, PA and packaged in corn-plastic — 100% bio-compostable!

I met this guy in Center City and he gave me a bunch of samples. Besides the fact that he is so nice, the company is local and the ingredients are excellent (none small factors of course), my dog ate it. He is so picky with frozen stuff and he has been getting these throat infections, so I have been trying different stuff to keep his throat from getting dry, including a ton of ice creams. He totally loved the blueberry too!
Kristen,
HI! I am glad your dog loves Frozen Woofys. What kind of dog do you have? Which flavors did your dog try? W have two: Banana Rama Ding Dog and Barkin Berry, I must say that neither have blueberry in them? The organic “fresh” fruit in our products are bananas and strawberries. Let’s keep that puppy happy!
I just wanted to say this was a really nice article. Frozen Woofys are an excellent treat for our Misty. She loves them, and it’s funny when she finishes one she puts the container upside down (like you would a shot glass after taking a shot), lol. We can’t wait until it’s local to get here in Pgh. so keep up the good work Linda and Mike!
