As an attorney, it makes me very proud to say that the American Bar Association has taken a stand on BSL (breed-specific legislation) – by saying that it’s no good.

Resolution 100 calls for breed-neutral dangerous dog laws that focus on the behavior of the dog and the dog owners rather than just focusing on the way that the dog looks.  Ban the deed, not the breed!  According to the report accompanying the resolution, laws that target “pit bulls” are inconsistent with notions of due process – it’s just too difficult to judge a dog from the way it looks.  According to the chair of the Animal Law Committee of the Tort, Trial & Insurance Practice Section, Elise Van Kavage,“People love their pets, no matter what their appearance . . . .This is America. Responsible pet owners should be allowed to own whatever breed they want.”

In the wake of Lennox, and now Dre, what do you think?
